Waikato District Council

The Open for
Business District

Open Waikato

– Brand & Identity

CHALLENGE – In 2011, the Waikato District Council held a high-profile summit to initiate a district-wide conversation with the business sector about how to invigorate the district’s growth to attract more industry, create jobs and improve its economy. Port was commissioned to brand theme the summit with the aim of positioning the council as a leader in economic development. We were also asked to produce post-summit collateral to ‘keep the conversation going’ with all interested stakeholders.

IDEA – To design and begin the rollout of a roadmap for delivery around the Council’s guiding economic development principles of ‘People, Economy, Energy’. To kickstart this we facilitated a workshop to stimulate interest and ideas around the guiding principles.

We then worked with a strategy agency to formalise and action one of the key initiatives, a prospectus toolkit. The toolkit’s job is to support domestic and global export business and to attract investment back into the Waikato District. Port is currently rolling out a suite of collateral including publications, online presence, video and advertising (online and print).

RESULT – Interest from key business and community leaders increased significantly after the Economic Summit and has been sustained through subsequent engagement and support.
